Creativity meets care — promoting safe and intimate storytelling
What does an Intimacy Coordinator do?
An Intimacy Coordinator (IC) creates a safe and professional environment for cast and crew during scenes involving intimacy, nudity, simulated sex, or other intimate content.
Their role involves facilitating conversations around the creative aspects, boundaries and comfort levels, while also monitoring on-set practices to ensure compliance with industry standards and union guidelines.
The IC advocates for LGBTQIA+ and diverse cast members, ensuring their inclusion and well-being.
They collaborate with costume and makeup departments to provide appropriate garments and prosthetics.
ICs can also offer movement coaching and choreography to enhance the authenticity of intimate scenes.
An Intimacy Coordinator is there to support everyone to do their best work, from producers and directors to performers and crew members.
Why hire an Intimacy Coordinator?
A safe and respectful work environment is essential for fostering wellbeing, creativity, and productivity, while ensuring legal compliance and preventing harassment. In the creative industry, power imbalances can make it difficult for performers and crew to express discomfort, especially when directors hold significant influence.
This is where an Intimacy Coordinator plays a crucial role, working with the director to understand their vision, and with the actors to establish their boundaries. This facilitates a constructive dialogue, upholding both artistic integrity and the performers’ comfort.
By including an Intimacy Coordinator in the process, everyone on set can feel empowered to voice their boundaries and be reassured that they will be respected. ICs also help prevent harassment by addressing any inappropriate behavior, especially during intimate scenes, creating a safer and more professional environment at all stages of production.

Testemonials
I worked with Isabel on a film production dealing with “assault in a marriage.” During the work process, I was definitely looking for a creative challenge, but despite years of acting experience, I also felt a slight sense of unease about the sensitive subject matter. From the very beginning, Isabel, as intimacy coordinator, playfully guided the process of getting to know each other between my co-star and me, as well as with regard to the necessary physical intimacy. In doing so, I was able to sense not only Isabel's profound expertise but also their personal capacity for empathy, mindfulness, and humorous lightness. Trust quickly developed between all those involved, and a warm, respectful atmosphere was created. With the IC and the director, personal boundaries were set, agreements and choreographic arrangements were made and recorded in writing. Initially sceptical about whether I would experience the resulting set of rules as restrictive and limiting my freedom to play, I soon felt guided through a difficult topic by an unobtrusive, present, and clear authority, and became increasingly relaxed, ultimately feeling free, safe, and authentic. Thank you, Isabel

From stage to screen — see what collaborators have to say
Isabel joined our team as an Intimacy Coordinator for our season of Bring It On The Musical. It was an absolute joy to have them on board. They hosted an interactive, informative seminar covering the basics of intimacy within the theatre world, providing a safe and positive environment for our cast of young people to learn, ask questions, and discuss the importance of intimacy practises. Isabel was an absolute joy to work with, and I would recommend her to anyone looking for an intimacy coordinator for their project.

“Run Woman Run” was a particularly challenging shoot, during which Isabel accompanied my film partner and me in their truly empathetic, clear, and always attentive manner. Isabel was able to deal with the difficult subject of sexualized violence in a remarkably sensitive and attentive way. I always felt seen and taken seriously. I knew at all times that I could discuss any concerns I had. After the film wrapped, Isabel took the time to discuss the filming process with me again and talk through my feelings and thoughts that our work together brought forth. All in all, it was very special! It was a joy to work with them!
Nora Jensen, Actor “Run Woman Run”
Isabel managed to ensure that we were able to stage a rape scene respectfully in a protected space without losing credibility. With their open, empathetic, and at the same time clear manner, Isabel created an atmosphere in which trust could develop. The actors felt seen, taken seriously, and safe, while boundaries were always communicated transparently, professionally, and bindingly. The intensive exchange about the choreography of this scene gave me, as the director, a great sense of security. I would choose Isabel again as an intimacy and mental health coordinator anytime!
